Walk Privacy Policy

Overview

Walk does not collect, store, or share any personal data with third parties. All data remains on your device.

Data Storage

  • Voice memos: Stored locally on your device only. Recordings never leave your device.
  • Walking session data: Duration and cadence stored locally only.
  • Settings and preferences: Stored locally only.
  • No cloud sync: Walk does not upload any data to external servers.
  • No analytics: Walk does not track usage, collect analytics, or use any tracking tools.
  • No third parties: Walk does not share data with any third parties for any purpose.

Permissions

Walk requests the following Android permissions to function properly:

Microphone (RECORD_AUDIO)

Used exclusively for recording voice memos during walks. Audio recordings are saved locally on your device in the app’s private storage and are never transmitted, uploaded, or shared.

Activity Recognition (ACTIVITY_RECOGNITION)

Used to detect walking steps and calculate cadence (steps per minute) using your device’s accelerometer. This data is processed on your device in real-time and is never uploaded or shared. Only summary statistics (average cadence) are stored locally for display in walk summaries.

Notification Policy Access (ACCESS_NOTIFICATION_POLICY)

Used only for the optional Do Not Disturb mode feature. When enabled, Walk temporarily silences notifications during walks to minimize distraction. Walk saves your previous notification settings and restores them when your walk ends. Walk does not access the content of any notifications.

Foreground Service (FOREGROUND_SERVICE)

Allows audio playback to continue when the screen is locked during walks. This ensures the generative audio modules continue playing throughout your walk.

Post Notifications (POST_NOTIFICATIONS)

Used to display a persistent notification during active walking sessions. This notification shows walk duration and provides a stop button. Required for the foreground service on Android 13+.

Data Usage

Walk processes the following data locally on your device:

  • Voice recordings: Stored as audio files in the app’s private directory, accessible only to Walk.
  • Accelerometer data: Used in real-time to calculate step cadence, not stored beyond the current walking session’s summary.
  • Walk session metadata: Duration, date/time, average cadence, and number of voice memos are stored locally for display in walk history.
  • User settings: Audio module selection, bilateral audio preference, Do Not Disturb preference, and sensory prompt preferences are stored locally.

Data Deletion

You have complete control over all data stored by Walk:

  • Voice memos: Can be deleted individually from within the app via the voice memo detail screen.
  • Walk history: Can be cleared by clearing app data in Android Settings → Apps → Walk → Storage → Clear data.
  • Complete removal: Uninstalling the app removes all Walk data from your device permanently.

Walk does not store backups of your data anywhere else, so deletion is permanent and irreversible.

Third-Party Services

Walk does not use any third-party services, SDKs, analytics platforms, advertising networks, or external APIs. The app is completely self-contained and operates entirely on your device.

Internet Connection

Walk does not require an internet connection to function. The app does not make any network requests, transmit any data, or communicate with external servers.

Children’s Privacy

Walk is not directed at children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can delete such information.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time to reflect changes in the app’s functionality or legal requirements. When we make changes, we will:

  • Update the “Last updated” date at the top of this policy
  • Post the updated policy at this same URL
  • Notify users of material changes via the app or Play Store listing updates

Your continued use of Walk after any changes indicates your acceptance of the updated privacy policy.

Your Rights

Because all Walk data is stored locally on your device and never transmitted elsewhere, you have complete control over your data:

  • Access: You can access all your data directly within the app.
  • Deletion: You can delete any or all data at any time as described above.
  • Portability: Voice memo files are standard audio format and can be shared via the app’s share function.
  • No profiling: Walk does not profile users or make automated decisions based on your data.

Security

Walk stores all data in the app’s private storage directory, which is protected by Android’s application sandbox security model. Other apps cannot access Walk’s data without root access to your device.

Because no data is transmitted over networks, there is no risk of interception during transmission.

We recommend securing your device with a screen lock to protect access to Walk and all your apps.
